“Why Does My Pain Relief Only Last 3 Days?”

April 3, 2020

A lot of people are frustrated by TEMPORARY pain relief, when what they’re really looking for is PERMANENT, lasting pain relief…

This was highlighted recently by a young woman I was working with, when she asked me this question: “Why does my pain relief only last 3 days?”

I of course had a very good clinical explanation for her, and it reminded me of 2 very important key points that you need to understand about pain relief, particularly if you’re looking for lasting pain relief.

I’ll explain these 2 key points in detail in the video, and I’ll summarize them in the text below…

2 Key Points About Lasting Pain Relief

->> Key Point #1: A LOT of people would be extremely happy with 3 solid days of pain relief.

We work with a lot of clients at Gordon Physical Therapy who’ve been suffering with chronic aches and pains for years, sometimes decades…

And if we could offer them 3 days of complete pain relief, they’d be ecstatic!

The young woman I was working with was in the same boat: she’d had her neck pain and headaches for several years, following a major back surgery.

It was a bit hard to understand why she was frustrated by her current status… but it’s more understandable if you consider the next key point…

->> Key Point #2: Temporary pain relief is a great place to start!

Let’s put that in BIG letters before I explain:

Temporary Pain Relief is a Great Place to Start!

When it comes to lasting pain relief, I’m fond of using the “3 Phases of Healing” to show people the bigger picture.

Here’s what it looks like:

->> Phase 1: in this phase, we focus on reducing pain and inflammation

->> Phase 2: now that we’re experiencing some pain relief, we can start to shift our focus to building strength and flexibility

->> Phase 3: finally, we’re now ready to make sure all the gains we’ve made help you to return to the activities you really enjoy doing

If you follow this roadmap, temporary pain relief is what happens during Phase 1. Our goal is to stretch just how temporary the pain relief is… from 1 hour to 3-4 hours…from that to an entire day… then to several days… and so on.

With that in mind, this client is most definitely headed in the right direction!

Now we just need to keep her moving in that direction and take her through the “3 Phases of Healing”.

And in the end, we should have a very happy client! One who’s happy to come back to us for her future needs and is more than happy to tell all her friends about how great we are!

I call that a Win-Win!

Like I said, I’ll explain more in the video at the bottom of this post…

I hope that helps! Stay well 🙂
